Chiaroscuro Class Week 5, APE and a Robot

Metal. And more drapery. And more fruit (unfinished). Gotta fix this one for the quarter final grade coming up. I've also been working on the homework due this coming Wednesday, trying to color in the lineart from last week. Busy busy busy...

On a different note, I went to the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco yesterday! It was really motivating and wonderful to see all sorts of people there, from seasoned pros to students fresh out of school. I even saw the girl there whose blog helped me decide to decide to go to the program that I'm currently enrolled in. (peep her blog at http://zealousceles.blogspot.com/ ) All in all, it was very motivating and I had the chance to meet some really nice people and buy some phenomenal sketchbooks.Yay!!!

I also got to work on my munny again this morning. This is probably terrible to say, but it's been nice being antisocial. :P Here's a sneak peak at the undercoat I've laid down. Megablaster and boots WIP.

Chiaroscuro Class, Week 4

This was my first time trying to do a realistic depiction of cloth. Really struggled with the different between form shadows and cast shadows. Also, the pot/grapes didn't come out to my liking. This studio assignment made me realize that the position of my paper and how I hold it across my lap could really skew my perspective. Also it made a big impact on me how much a well sharpened piece of charcoal matters.

The homework for this week was to set up a still life at home that we could work on for 3 weeks. We were tasked with getting a sharp, clean sketch down. I'm actually proud of how accurate my line art is here, especially on the wrench and the cranes. I stayed away from the vine charcoal this time, stuck to the hardest ones and did very little smudging, if at all. Much, much better...I'm really looking forward to getting back feedback and shading this one. :)
